There’s nothing TV DivaGal enjoys more than curling up with a good glass of wine to watch a romantic TV movie. The only thing better would be watching one that actually revolves around wine!
In Uncorked, airing this Saturday on Hallmark Channel, Men In Trees alum Scott Elrod plays Andrew Browning, a single dad and chef who meets fellow workaholic Johnetta “Johnny” Prentice (played by Desperate Housewives‘ Julie Benz).
TV DivaGal talked to the hunky actor about his latest film, and if he ever slows down himself to smell the tannins.
Tell me a little about Andrew.
First and foremost, he’s a father. He lost his wife to cancer; it’s a story that’s got Hallmark written all over it. He’s a very dedicated family man and he’s close with parents. He happens to be a chef, and he’s caught up in it. It’s all about the work, and I think that was one of his ways of numbing the pain over the lost of his wife.
Do you share your character’s workaholic tendencies?
I’m kind of that guy who’s always working to the wee hours. I’ve always been one to give 110 percent. It’s something my dad instilled in me at an early age.

I enjoy working so much so it’s not such a taxing thing for me. It’s fun doing what I do, and I enjoy doing it. If I had my choice, one project would end and I’m starting the next one two days later.
Are you a real-life wine connoisseur?
I love wine. We obviously couldn’t drink it on set, so we were drinking grape juice. I’m a big Pinot Noir fan, and the Russian River and Argentenian wines. I don’t know really know much about wine, but when you’re around somebody who does and they pair it with the proper food, it’s just amazing how much better the wine tastes. I usually just say, “Yep, it smells good.”

How are your cooking skills off-set?
On the film, we had a great art department that made everything for us and made it look like I was this amazing chef, but I do enjoy cooking outside of the camera. I don’t like cooking for myself, but if it’s for a whole bunch of people, then I enjoy doing it.
What’s your signature dish?
I do a grilled sole. I’ll broil it and add a fresh mango sauce or avocado. I make a mean chicken enchilada. It’s the way you prepare it. I boil the chicken and it keeps it moist. I always cook myself breakfast.

On Men in Trees you were shirtless a lot. Do we get a shirtless scene in Uncorked?
There’s not too much skin in this. I’m fully dressed. I actually had to bring out the acting talents on this one other than just shed the clothes. Mom’s real proud!
